Donkey In The Well
One day a farmer’s donkey fell into a well. The animal cried out for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; It just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.
He invited his neighbors over to help him. They all grabbed shovels and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey made lots of normal donkey sounds, kind of like this. Then everything became quiet. A few shovel loads later, the farmer looked down the well to see that with each shovel of dirt, the donkey would shake it off and take a step up. As they all continued to shovel, he would shake off the dirt and take another step up. A while later the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off.
Let’s think of every day as a shovel of dirt on our backs. Shake it off and take a step up. We can get out of the deepest well by never giving up.
Later the donkey returned and bit the farmer on the ass. The wound got infected and the farmer died. The moral of the story is, when you do something wrong, and try to cover your ass, it always comes back to bite you.
Five simple donkey rules;
- Forgive your adversaries (after biting them on the ass)
- Rely on yourself (not the government)
- Stop worrying (most bad things never happen anyway)
- Appreciate what you have
- Give more – Expect less
- Have fun (nothing else matters)
