Liberal or Lib’rall

It seems there must have been a time when people with a left-leaning or socialist belief system were considered to be liberal in their thinking – or maybe it was just a case of them considering themselves that way. I don’t remember when it came about, so the origin of the misunderstanding must have been prior to the 1960s. In any case, in recent decades, it has become abundantly clear that what constitutes the current political Left exhibits nothing that could be remotely considered liberal thought. In fact, the very opposite seems to be the case.

As words and phrases evolve over time, like “gender” becoming confused with “sex”, or describing dirty water as “potable” [i]Water is called potable because it is safe to drink and suitable for human consumption. The word “potable” comes from the Latin word potare, which means “to drink”., or people saying, “I could care less” when they really mean, “I couldn’t care less“, it becomes very confusing. Not wishing to cause more confusion, I have introduced the new word “Lib’rall“, a proper noun with the associated adjective of the same spelling, to mean the exact opposite of “Liberal“, or “liberal”.

When children don’t get what they want, they often resort to crying tantrums and demands to be given cookies or toys or other such things. They often do this in public places, in the belief that onlookers will join in with their demands. They simply want what they want when they want it, and are totally unable or unwilling to accept anything less. This singular selfish and immature attitude is generally understood and tolerated with full confidence that with the passage of time and a bit of discipline, the children will mature and grow past their childish behavior.

In competition, when some adults don’t get what they want they express their disappointment by declaring their opponent wrong, dishonest, evil or worse. They get angry, they get revenge, they storm out of the meeting.

Some swear to leave the Country, or quit their jobs to live in the street, but they rarely do either.

Most, but not all, other adults, having a different persuasion, are able to reflect inward about their losses, accepting them in adult fashion. They usually don’t agree with their competitor’s point of view, but they are able to understand it and accept it.

They usually express their disappointment by reflecting inward and trying harder the next time.
