Move to Politics

It is difficult to have a serious discussion about politics without first separating the idea of “political preference” from basic “human psychology”. In the chapters that follow I will try to emphasize those differences so as to acknowledge and discriminate between those two things – some of which can be easily altered over time from the inherited traits that are nearly impossible to change.

It is difficult to proceed beyond this point without creating confusion between politics and the underlying causes, which are part of our human psychology, so we will take a break here to isolate those two things.

1. Everyone would agree that politicians lie, with the possible exception of Abe Lincoln and Jimmy Carter. That is because of a fundamental flaw of our Constitution, to be explained elsewhere.
2. Most people would agree that Trump is an asshole and Biden is clumsy and senile. Neither is worthy of their positions but that is an undesirable artifact of your system.
3. Almost every citizen and most politicians want what is best for the Country but there is considerable disagreement about the strategy and tactics necessary to bring that about.
1. Once the politics have been removed from the equation other things become clear.
2. The size of the human brain and the way it is organized have not changed very much in the last 50 thousand years, resulting in many of our “thoughtful” actions not being very different than they have ever been.
3. One of the most primitive human behaviors.
4. Recorded history is pretty clear about how people respond to strife vs relative comfort.

The problem can be greatly worsened by the fact that the “News” media is corrupted by politics. I emphasize “News” because there is little or none of that actually being reported in recent times. It is commonly said that the “main-stream press” in the USA is distorted to benefit the political Left, but that is not completely true as can be seen here. It seems the imbalance in viewership of the extremes is a minor one. One could argue that the Left’s treatment is more dishonest but that is only because Fox makes a more clear distinction about what is news and what is opinion, so they need to work harder to get the desired effect. But the worst part is that the corruption exists at all, no matter which side benefits. History is nothing more than an after-the-fact recording of current-events, and “News” that is reported falsely forever distorts the historical record. It doesn’t matter which side of the political aisle benefits – when “News” is falsely reported, the country’s citizenry is prevented from learning from its past.

Unfortunately there is no way to recover when a society begins to turn to socialism. We can see it clearly throughout the various social experiments, beginning in the 19th Century and continuing to the present.

1xx years ago Mark Twain said, “don’t believe,,,,. If he were with us today he might say, “don’t believe everything you hear, anything you read in the newspaper, anything on radio or TV, or certainly anything you get from the Facebook/Twitter crowd.

“If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you’re mis-informed.”

Portmanteau

Librall is a portmanteau for one who poses as being liberal but is actually a know-it-all. Not to be confused with A Dictionary of the Older Scottish Tongue (up to 1700).

Communism is a continuom. Difference is degree between socialism etc. It starts with creeping give-aways and liberal social programs; then progresses to various levels of socialism until it starts looking like the government should own everything.

When we are young and asked to do something that seems strang. 2possibilities , this guy is too old and doesn’t know what is going on , oe this looks like an opportunity to learn something. 1 means an unhappy life, probably in poverty, 2 means an exciting life filled with adventure and new horizons

The USA has become an easy mark. International dealings are crippled by democracy out of control. PC, education turned into indoctrination,  social justice, etc.

Uninted , riot, refund, pass legislation, all increase gun sales

China does care about any of that nonsense.

Puratanism = rigid government enforced rules.

If each of us were to make a list of the half dozen or so most important issues to be addressed on the international landscape, hopefully each would include three 1 energy generation, 2 energy consumption, 3 technology development, climate change. Almost none would include any reference to government.

Milton Friedman , have borders or welfare but not both

You have heard all the rhetorical about how left say enemy is gready. Right says left is dumb here is a rational look

It is reasonable to ask why the validity of climate change “science” shold be viewed as a political issue. The answer is conseptually very simple but not obvious at first glance. The reason goes back to the basic question of the purpose of governments.

In the Western World there are two opposing philosophies around the role of government. The classic Conservative answer is that government’s purpose is to consolidate those essential services that protect and benefit all citizens in such a way as to provide those things in a coordinated, consistent and efficient fashion. In the case of the United States those things are clearly enumerated and explained by the Federalist Papers. That very enlightening work was undertaken by xxxxxxxxxxxx in 1789 as a way to explain the new Constitution to the American people. It is not an easy read because the language has changed considerably and even certain words have morphed to mean things different than their original intent. These writings address everyghing from the building of roads and bridges to a postal service as well as maintaining a national defense and regulating international trade. Over the succeeding centuries that list has grown to include obvious things like the creation and airports, xxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Montesquieu would be dissapointed with the way our three branches of govenment have evolved.

The economic recession we are currently experiencing is an example of mass sociogenic illness (MSI).

How to tell liberals from conservatives

Liberals – Conservative

equity – justice

mean spirited

taxes – tax rate

racist

bigot

xenophobe

moral obligation – legal right

reached out to me – contacted me

I feel – I thinkbalance of trade

Things the Left-Wing news media would rather you not remember

11/4/2008 – Obama Wins Election

2/25/2010 – Obama to McCain; “the election is over ( get over it”

3/23/2010 -Obama Care Passes with 100% Republican opposition

10123/2010 – McConnell quote; “goal to make him 1-term President”

Obama proved he had power. Never got around to the wisdom part.

Too lazy to think carefully and thoroughly through the question.

Afraid to leave the comfort of their bastion of “truth”.

There is an opposing view of government’s purpose that

includes all of the above but also adds things considered to be essential “needs” of the citizenry – things like welfare, food stamps, and the like. We could say this additional government responsibility began with the adoption of Social Security under the FDR administration and has expanded dramatically over the past several decades.

I should start by saying that I am very much in favor of Earth – I have lived here all my life. It’s really the only planet I know very much about and I would like to see it safely continue for the remaining 4 billion years or so of its scheduled lifetime. My children and grandchildren need it also, so I don’t do anything intentionally that would jeopardize its future.

On the other hand, I enjoy a few advantages worth noteing that unfortunately not everyone has had the benefit of.

(a) In college I was trained in the “hard” sciences – chemistry, physics, mathematics, etc., and there is a glaring absence in my background of anything resembling the “liberal arts”.

—————————————

(b) Even though I never studied political science, I keep a copy of the Constitution of the United States in my truck. Recently it took me all summer, but I finished reading the Federalist Papers for the first time since high school.

(c) I have lived long enough to know bullshit when I hear it and I can spot a politician a mile away.

Looking statistically at the distribution of citizens along political lines, we see a perfect Gaussian distribution – half on the left and the other half right of center. This is no accident of course. Political parties adjust their agendas to stay as close to 50/50 so as to gain electability, while sacrificing the lease of their wish lists.

The middle of the distribution is composed of those who want the best for the Country and can largely agree on many things. They tend to vote based on the few areas where they don’t agree or even more often on looks, personality, and other more substile personal issues of the candidates.

On the two extremes we have the “wing nuts”. These are the folks who drive their cars into demonstrators and shoot their dissidents in the streets of Portland and Seattle. Fortunately they are few. They tend to be equally distributed between “left wing” and “right wing”, and care must be taken to not include these folks in political calculations because they are indeed “nuts”, without a clear understanding of almost anything.

That leaves us with the “left main stream” and the “right main stream”, and the differences that divide the two groups. So why do they disagree with such fervency. I will digress briefly to draw a parallel that might be useful.

So what does all that have to do with modern politics? When the “main stream right” criticizes liberals, they point to their inability to understand that wealth first needs to be generated before it can give it away to others in need. In other words, they criticize left leaning ideas. When the “main stream left” criticizes conservatives, they use words like selfish, uncaring and absence of empathy.  In other words, they criticize the soul of the person.

The Left vs Right debate rings loudly of the same arogance and xxxxxxxx as the Jewish message that they are the chosen ones. There is no winner in that debate – it’s a lose-lose that goes on until the dogma is extinguished.
