Wild Pigs

A college professor noticed an exchange student in his class, rubbing his back and stretching as if in pain. He asked the young man if he needed help and the student responded that he had shrapnel lodged in his back from an injury he had suffered while fighting Communists in his native country. The professor confidently assured him that they were both fortunate that nothing like that could happen in the USA. The student looked at the professor and asked, “Do you know how to catch wild pigs?”
Thinking it was a joke, the professor asked for the punch line. The young man explained that it was no joke.
“You find a suitable open area in the woods and put out some corn. The pigs will soon find it and begin to come every day for the free food. When they get used to coming every day, you put a fence along one side of the area. In a day or two, they will become accustomed to the fence and begin eating the corn again. Then you put up another side of the fence. They gradually get used to that also. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence in place with a gate in the last side. The pigs, being so used to the free corn, start to come through the gate for it. You then slam the gate and catch the whole herd.”
“The pigs run around and around inside the fence as they begin to realize they have lost their freedom, but soon they go back to eating the free corn. In a short while they get used to being captive – they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for food so they accept their captivity and continue gorging on the free corn.”
“In time you can hold out an ear of corn and the pig will follow you to the slaughterhouse. Future generations never know that their ancestors ever enjoyed freedom – they simply follow orders and vote for more free corn.”
“You see, the same thing is happening in America that happened to my Country. The government keeps pushing[ii]Marx is often quoted as saying, “Remove one freedom per generation and soon you will have no freedom and no one would have noticed”. I don’t know if he actually said that but consider this interview of a former KGB guy. you toward Communism[iii]If this looks like a conspiracy theory, keep in mind that it was conducted by ABC at a time when they were still considered to be a legitimate news source. by giving away free corn in the form of welfare, food stamps, free health care, and the rest, while you continually lose your freedom – but just a little at a time.”
God help us when the gate slams shut and the government is so far in debt that to avoid total financial meltdown, it has to cease printing “free corn”.
